Yep, that's right, being a dud root can see you go from cocktails and cute couple-shots to desperately scrolling through dating profiles faster than a horny teenager can reach for Kleenex, according to a new survey of 2000 adults conducted by One Poll and Pure Romance.
Before you get your boxers in a bind, you do get a few chances to prove your worth. According to the study, 71 per cent of people didn't regard one bad encounter as enough to call it quits. On average, it took 4.5 poor performances before people pulled up stumps. (Note the fraction: some people appear to be prepared to abort a relationship midway through a joyless jaunt?!)
Among blokes, 41 per cent cited lack of orgasm as a factor in bad sex, while 36 per cent said the absence of foreplay could sink sexy time. A further 29 per cent were non-plussed when their partner didn’t reciprocate oral sex, when the speed of the session was too rapid, or when they couldn't get hard because they'd been drinking.
For women, 57 per cent agreed that lack of foreplay could ruin a romp, 44 per cent weren’t happy when they didn't finish or it was over too quickly. Peculiarly, 37 per cent of women said dirty sheets could ruin the experience for them. Finally, 33 per cent of ladies had issues with partners who wouldn't go down on them.
Food for thought we’re sure you’ll agree. So, short of doing your laundry, what can do to ensure your performance doesn’t derail an otherwise promising coupling? According to the survey, 72 percent of participants improved the quality of their carnal encounters by showing their partners new sex positions and by being open about how they prefer to be touched. Almost half (48 per cent) said they used sex toys to spice things up, while 46 per cent just straight out told their partner exactly what they wanted. Finally, there’s something to be said for persevering though a bout lackluster bonking. Seventy-one per cent of people agreed that things just naturally get better over time.
