Powered exclusively by the Blue Oval’snaturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine, the GT fastback Bullitt celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic Steve McQueen action film.

The special run 2018 Mustang will be offered in ‘Dark Highland Green’ (like the original film car), with special features including black ‘NitroPlate’ exhaust tips, a high-performance induction system, Shelby GT350 intake manifold (with 87mm throttle bodies), a unique Bullitt welcome screen, chrome accents around the grille and front windows, 19-inch ‘Torq Thrust’ alloy wheels, red Brembo brake calipers, a unique black front grille, and a Bullitt logo on the circular rear (faux) fuel cap.

Each Mustang Bullitt will also feature an individually numbered plaque in place of the traditional Mustang emblem on the passenger-side dashboard. And as a hat-tip to the original car’s interior, the gear shift features a white cue ball knob.

Expect claimed outputs to align with European spec at 341kW/529 Nm, and the car is available with a six-speed manual gearbox only.

The film Bullitt is best known for its 10-minute chase sequence, in which McQueen’s character, detective Frank Bullitt steers his 1968 Mustang GT 390 fastback in pursuit of a pair of hitmen, driving a menacing black Dodger Charger R/T, through the streets of San Francisco.

An exact date for the car’s local on-sale is yet to be confirmed, although the 50th anniversary of the film’s original release falls on October 17th, so it’s possible those timing planets may align.

Ford Australia says full details and Australian specification for the Ford Mustang Bullitt will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch.
