But for Slovakian kickboxer Pavel Trusov, it’s just another day in the ring.
The 25-year-old has trained in martial arts for more than 19 years and just smashed the record for the most full-extension punches thrown in one minute. It took him six months of prep, including interval work and powerlifting to increase muscle mass and CrossFit sessions for stamina, to get him fighting fit to reach his final tally of 322.
"[The training] was definitely not easy," Trusov said. "It was during this training that I learned what incredible muscle pain is. But motivation and family support is the best motivational medicine."
Worth noting: the folks at Guinness World Records define a full-extension punch as "a forceful strike with the fist where the arm is fully extended and fully retracted between strikes.” It’s a move that, according to pros, isn’t easy to master.
"A great boxer has to have focus, coordination, power, speed, and endurance," Michael Olajide Jr., a former championship middleweight boxer, told Men's Health.
