Noah Centineo Opens Up About Drug Use And Putting On Size For His New Role

The 23-year-old, who stars in the teen romance To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, explains that just three years ago things were very different for him.

“As the 15-year-old living in close quarters with my mom, I felt an obligation to step up and fill a role,” he tells Harper’s Bazaar. “[To] fill a position that was vacant at that time, you know, and in doing so, I bristled and I kind of shoved down a lot of emotion.

When Noah just a teenager, his parents divorced, forcing he and his mother to move into a hotel. At 17, he started couch-surfing his mates and began using recreational drugs, describing it as a “wild period” where he’d “take Molly and talk for five hours and like get to the bottom of some really deeply philosophical existential questions.”

While Noah doesn’t go into details about the exact list of narcotics he took, he admits it was “Everything. There wasn’t really much I wouldn’t do. I was really upset, man. It was a really dark time in my life.”

Fortunately, the Miami native has been clean since his 21st birthday and has opted a far healthier lifestyle.

Apart from featuring in the latest teenage clip. Noah is also set to play the hero He-Man in the new Masters of the Universe adaptation, a role which saw him put on 13kg.

“It’s a lot of eating,” he told ET’s Katie Krause on the set of the To All the Boys sequel, P.S. I Still Love You, last year. “You would think it’s awesome but it’s like, 6,000 calories a day.”

“As a person you’re supposed to eat like, 2,000 calories a day.” he added. “It’s great, I’m not complaining, but, you know, if I’m honest, I eat so many eggs.”
