Part of being a man means you're expected to make the first move. Songs, movies and books all push the narrative that men are meant to approach, and women are meant to receive their advances.
But you know what? It's the 21st century - don't you think it's time women started approaching you? Wouldn't it be nice – if only once – if a woman approached you to seek your approval?
Well sit back and listen up, because there are things you can do to increase the chances of her being the one to approach you.
1. Dress Nicely
Half the battle is gaining a woman's interest before the two of you have even spoken. The easiest way to do this? Dress nicely. This doesn't mean hitting the shops and forking out thousands on a suit, but rather focussing on injecting some of your personality and approach to life into your attire.
Some women like sporty guys, some like classy and professional – but as long as you're honest with yourself and your style, you won't give her any mixed signals.
2. Dance Like You Mean It
Here's the truth: not everyone can dance. Some of us aren't blessed with rhythm or groove and have to rely on our two left feet to get us by. But women aren't necessarily turned on by good dancers, they're turned on by confident dancers.
Making sure you're having the time of your life while on the dance floor shows women you're comfortable in your own skin, ability and surroundings; and chicks dig this.
3. Make Sure You're Well Groomed
In a recent survey 8,500 women voted that stubble was the sexiest type of facial hair, so it makes sense to keep your beard in check. There's nothing sexier than a guy who looks after himself, so rocking a killer haircut, a well-kept beard and moisturised skin will alert women to your hygiene and cleanliness.
4. Smell Nice
Do we really need to say more? Simply put: if you smell bad, you don't have a chance – but you'd be surprised at how many people use deodorant as a 'shower in a can.' Be sure to shower (with water) before going out, and invest in a sexy cologne. But don't go overboard - too much cologne and you might just scare her off.
5. Don't Be a Jerk
Many guys believe that being tough and macho in front of women (i.e. a jerk) is hot, but that's so far from the truth it's not even funny. In fact, don't focus on not being a jerk, but instead focus on being polite. If a woman hears you complimenting the bartender who makes your drink, or engaging in chit-chat with the lonely cleaner at work, they will form a good impression of you and be more inclined to approach you.
But, of course, don't be polite just because you want women to notice you. Be polite because it'll make everyone's life easier.
6. Use Body Language
Reading someone's body language is a great way of determining if someone wants to be approached or not. At the same time, it's a great way for you to let women know that you're open to being approached. Standing with an inviting, open posture and smiling at a woman across the bar is a great way to indicate to her she won't be rejected if she comes and says hello.
Do you stand in the corner of the bar with your head down, trying your best to avoid eye-contact with attractive women, and wonder why no one comes and talks to you? Go figure.
7. Live Your Life
Giving women an idea of what makes you tick is a great way to get them to approach you. Simply doing what you love is enough to make women realise what you're passionate about, and if she's impressed by that, she'll approach you. Some ideas include: walking the dog, going to the gym or playing a musical instrument.
