According to study published in Archives of Sexual Behaviour, married couples under the same roof have sex about 51 times each year, or about once a week.
This compares with the average adults enjoying sex 54 times a year or just over once a week.
But most interestingly, the research showed a drop in recent years compared to between 2000 and 2004, in fact nine few times per year.
“There are now so many other ways to spend leisure time at home,” says study author and psychology professor, Jean Twenge, from San Diego State University.
Other older research backs up these states: findings by the University of Chicago Study called “The Social Organisation of Sexuality: Sexual Practices in the United States,” showed that nearly only a third of couples have sex two or three times week while half are saying they have sex a few times a month.
Meanwhile, findings in the Journal of Social Psychological and Personality Science suggest that the more is not necessarily the better. While couples who had sex once a week reported feeling happier, those who managed to get down and dirty four or more times a week didn't necessarily feel any happier.
