If you were to pit a pole dancer and a bodybuilder against one another, there’d be an obvious winner in the strength department, right? But the truth is, despite the considerable size of an avid lifter, pole dancing requires strength that you just can’t get from shifting tin.

So what happens when a bodybuilder tries his luck at pirouetting around a pole? As YouTuber MattDoesFitness found out, a whole lot of struggle.

You can see the full footage below:

For the session, Matt invited his sister Katherine along who is also an instructor. She put him through his paces and although Matt manages to hold his own, at times, he found out just how challenging the workout can be.

After a quick stretch to warm up, the pair launch straight into what Katherine calls the “Hello Boys”. Matt rely on his brutal upper body strength to make a passable attempt.

His sister, however, shows no signs of going easy on him: the second move, “Head Stand Leg Waves,” requires some help while the third move,”Iron X,” focuses on grip strength.

Finally, they finish with the “Straddle,” a move that actually looks like something you’ve probably seen in the movies – legs wrapped around the pole to hold the person above the ground.

Perhaps it wasn’t like a typical session for a newcomer. “I’d never teach a beginner those things ever,” Katherine admits.

Equally, Matt found the class difficult. However, he manages to rely on some of his work in the gym to get him through some of the positions.

“They were quite hard, to be fair,” Matt adds. “Let’s be honest, I suck at pole, but I guess I can brute strength some of the moves… loosely.”
