They're the pride of hipsters and lumberjacks everywhere, but there's bad news for beard lovers.
According to researchers, a significantly higher amount of potentially dangerous bacteria lurked in men's beards compared to dog's fur.
Originally, the scientists wanted to discover whether there was a risk that humans with facial hair might pick up a dog-borne disease.
Swiss researchers took swabs from the beards of 18 men, and the necks of 30 dogs, to compare the results.
Instead, they found that dogs were in fact much cleaner than bearded men - and had a lot less germs.
