‘There’s nothing healthy about a tan.” You might have heard the ad like a broken record but it seems the message still hasn’t stuck, according to a new study.

Recent research conducted by Nivea Sun has found that nearly two thirds of Aussie men aren’t taking sun safety as seriously as they should be.

In Australia, skin cancer is the most prevalent form of the disease, with approximately two in three Aussies expected to be diagnosed by the time they’re 70.

While 62 per cent might want to be better at protecting their skin, thankfully, at least more than three quarters are always applying to their face (I guess no one wants to look like a beetroot on a Saturday night).

With the weather heating up, you can also be forgiven for wanting to get in the water and cool down straight away. But unfortunately, after applying slip slop slap, more than half of us don’t realise you need to wait 20 minutes for the lotion to sink in.

Meanwhile, even if you do manage to lather yourself in sunscreen, it’s important to reapply if you plan on spending prolonged periods in the sun. Sadly, more than 55 per cent aren’t going for round two.

And if you thought sun protection was limited to summer, you’ll have to think again. Applying sunscreen is a year-round routine that will help you avoid both damaged skin and cancerous moles.

Always read the label. Wearing protective clothing, hats and eyewear when exposed to the sun.
