Here's The Diet And Exercise Routine Behind Zac Efron's Role As Serial Killer Ted Bundy | Men's Health Magazine Australia

Here’s How Zac Efron Transformed To Play Serial Killer Ted Bundy

For years, Zac Efron has had one of the most enviable bodies in Hollywood. The release of Baywatch was peak rig for Efron. But as his career matured, he’s taken a more Christian Bale approach – transforming his body to do justice to the characters he plays. If you’re not living under a rock, you’d have noticed his most recent role is that of Serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile. And that meant leaving his usual jacked stature behind, opting for a leaner figure. Now, Efron reveals what it took to drop 6 kilos for the telemovie.

In an interview with Variety, Efron opened up about his preparation for the role, describing Ted as “always kind of a little bit gaunt. He always looked pretty tired.”

“I just ate all plant-based and did a lot of cardio,” explains Efron.

“I have a road bike that I ride around, well, everywhere. I put that on a stationary trainer and every morning, I would get up and cycle on that for an hour and watch something episodic like Ozark. I wasn’t eating carbs. I kind of just trimmed down a lot and really controlled my diet.”

Interestingly, the former High School Musical star noticed several similarities between the two.

“Our top teeth were very similar,” says Efron.

“I had a lot of similarities with Ted that were a little bit unnerving, but were blessings in disguise from the actor’s perspective.”

Following the debut at the Sundance Film Festive, the public has been quick to criticise the movie for glorifying serial killers while others have argued that Efron fits the bill.

However, Efron insists that Bundy “pulled the wool over people’s eyes” so showcasing the killer’s charm was crucial to movie.

“It simply tells a story and sort of how the world was able to be charmed over by this guy who was notoriously evil and the vexing position that so many people were put in, the world was put in,” Efron continues.

“Ted had this thing about him, this magic Ted Bundy façade – his charm, the way he worked with people, people in prison loved him, cops seemed to think he was an OK guy.”

Unfortunately, no release date has been confirmed for the movie but we can’t wait.
