Hate Love Island? These Workouts Will Help Pass The Time

Love Island has hit Aussie screens with a bang this month, filled with “banter”, desperate flirting and (admittedly enviable) washboard abs. For those who have no interest whatsoever in watching 12 single people pull each other with varying degrees of success (join the club), you’ve come to the right place. You won’t find any Love Island talk on these pages… well maybe here.

Since socialising with your missus is no longer an option, as is Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and general office chat – you’re going to have to find another way to pass the time. You know the show is on for two months, right?

Our advice? Mute your notifications and take action to level up your life while Australia gets its villa fix (you can always tune into some classic Sophie moments on her socials). Here are five better ways to spend an hour than watching the Love Island cast getting down and dirty.

Five better ways to spend your evening than watching Love Island 2018

Sculpt your abs

The gym will be a ghost town on weeknights. Make the nation’s obsession work to your advantage and get busy carving a physique that would earn you a place in the final. This bodyweight circuit should do the trick

Bed down

Catching extra minutes won’t just make you more productive tomorrow – it’ll help cinch your waistline, too. A study from King’s College London revealed that clocking up an hour’s extra sleep reduced participants’ daily sugar intake by 10 grams and quashed excess carbohydrate intake too. Plus, you’ll avoid irritating social updates.

Bag a promotion

… by pounding the pavement. Research from the University of Arizona revealed 60 minutes of cardio can improve connections between areas in your frontal cortex – the part of your brain responsible for decision-making, planning and multitasking. Get busy earning brownie points while your peers squabble over last night’s challenge.

Carve up the kitchen

Ditch the stodgy sandwiches and coffee shop snacks: tupperware has our vote. The easiest way to level up your lunchtime with muscle fuel is to prepare it yourself the night before. Here’s how to meal prep like a pro in five simple steps. While the world feasts on other people’s heartbreak, spend the time preparing tomorrow’s nutrition fix.

HIIT the park

You don’t need to complete a full hour of exercise to bank the metabolic benefits – HIIT will have you burning calories long after your final rep. In fact, you can burn up to 5% of your body fat with a simple 20-minute workout, according to scientists at Southern Illinois University.

You’re now armed with all the tools to get you through the next eight weeks. Now it’s up to you. Good luck.
