Peanut Butter And Vegemite On Toast Has Muscle-Building Benefits

Much like Red Bull and Jägermeister and Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Vegemite and Peanut Butter isn’t the most obvious pairing. True as that may be, however, put ‘em together and they undoubtedly work – especially if you’re looking to pack on muscle. Just check out these findings published in the European Journal of Nutrition.

Mexican scientists have proven that that peanuts, when combined with the yeast extract in Australia’s favourite home-grown spread, are chockers with biotin – a vitamin involved in plenty of metabolic processes, including converting nutrients into energy. In addition, biotin naturally boosts levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (aka IGF-1) in the body; a growth hormone that stimulates muscle gain and repair, reduces fat and even improves endurance levels. (Fun fact: it’s so effective that it’s prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency in its synthetic form.)

Also worth noting, the study mentioned above was *actually* based on Marmite Crunchy Peanut Butter (a product which currently isn’t available in Australia.) Still, as Vegemite is equally as yeasty and 10 times tastier, we’ve made the appropriate substitute here. (Don’t @ us!)
