This Is Reportedly The Most Expensive Sports Contract In History

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but a leak which has been making its way around the web has revealed that the one and only Lionel Messi has been offered history’s most expensive sports contract.

Published by Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the Argentinian star’s contract with Barcelona FC is reportedly valued at a staggering €555 million (AU$881.89 million) across a four-season period, allowing him to surpass past title-holder NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes II of the Kansa City Chief who signed a twelve-year agreement for US$503 million.

In light of the leak, as reported by The Guardian, Messi is seeking to take legal action against the newspaper and Barcelona have confirmed they will be doing the same.

A club statement read: “In view of the information published today in the newspaper El Mundo, in relation to the professional contract signed between FC Barcelona and the player Lionel Messi, the club regrets its publication given that it is a private document governed by the principle of confidentiality between the parties.

“FC Barcelona categorically denies any responsibility for the publication of this document and will take appropriate legal action against the newspaper El Mundo for any damage that may be caused as a result of this publication.

“FC Barcelona expresses its absolute support for Lionel Messi, especially in the face of any attempt to discredit his image and to damage his relationship with the entity where he has worked to become the best player in the world and in football history.”

Messi’s deal expires at the end of the current season and he has previously said he is in no rush to decide on his future. I don’t know about you but if it was me I would be edging towards a hell yes.
