High Intensity Endurance Training Results In Lowered Libido | Men's Health Magazine Australia

The Workout That Could Be Ruining Your Sex Life

Working out may be giving you the body and confidence you need to get in the bedroom, but it could be significantly setting you back when it comes to sexual performance.

A recent study by researchers from the University of North Carolina in the US has surveyed over 1000 men to determine the links between working out out and sex drive.

The researchers set out to determine the association between different endurance training styles and sex drive in healthy men. In their results, the team identified a significantly lowered libido among men who regularly undertook longer, more intense workouts.

“Exposure to higher levels of chronic intense and greater durations of endurance training on a regular basis are significantly associated with a decreased libido scores in men,” explains the report.

The study, which was published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, suggests that the new information can be used when treating men who are experiencing performance issues in the bedroom, such as erectile dysfunction.

“Clinicians who treat male patients for sexual disorders and, or council couples on infertility issues should consider the degree of endurance exercise training a man is performing as a potential complicating factor.”
