It’s a busy year for electric BMWs. Not only are they launching the iX crossover, but they finally unveiled their fully electric, four-door sedan during the BMW Group Annual Conference on Wednesday.

The first concept version of the i4 was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017, though what we get to see today as the final product is a whole lot different.

“With its sporty looks, best in class driving dynamics and zero local emissions, the BMW i4 is a true BMW. It makes the heart of the BMW brand now beat fully electric,” said Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

Design-wise, it’s very similar to the BMW 4 series, with blue accents along the sides, on the back, and around the BMW badge up front reminding you that it’s an electric vehicle.

Inside, though, things are very different. It gets the new iDrive version 8, as just revealed for the iX crossover.

It’s not a city car. Not a crossover. Not a startup. It’s a proper sports car: th sedan claims to have up to 300 miles of EPA range, and a power output of up to 530HP. BMW says the car’s most powerful configuration will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in about four seconds.

We didn’t get detailed specs for the BMW i4, or its price, but the company says more will be revealed in the coming weeks. The BMW i4, alongside a BMW M Performance variant, should become available for purchase later in 2021.
