Everything You Need To Know About The Sport Returning This Week

Cleared your calendar in anticipation of the AFL making a comeback? Join the club, friend. It’s been a LONG few months without the ref’s whistle blowing through the telly – and even longer since we’ve watched Josh Kennedy kick 10 from the comfort of the couch.

 

Below, we’ve listed all the elite sporting fixtures that are returning this weekend.

Australia

Football.

The AFL will resume Round Two on Thursday, June 11, with Collingwood playing reigning premiers Richmond at the MCG. Rounds Three, Four and Five will be held in Victoria, Queensland, NSW and South Australia (with Port Power and the Crows going head-to-head for the Showdown at Adelaide Oval.)

NRL.

Rugby League is one step closer to returning with the NSWRL announcing that training would resume on June 13 for all NSW teams – but only for up to 20 players (including a trainer) at a time. This easing of restrictions applies to outdoor and non-contact training activities only and requires players to adhere to physical distancing measures of 1.5 metres.

Union.

While players are officially now back training, we’re still weeks away from the Super Rugby Au competition kicking off on Friday, July 3. Round One will see the Reds hosting the Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium. 

New Zealand

Super Rugby Aotearoa

Super Rugby makes a comeback in New Zealand this weekend with full crowds allowed across the country for all professional sporting codes. The comp will run for 12 weeks, including finals, from July 3, and will feature all five Kiwi franchises: the Crusaders, Blues, Hurricanes, Chiefs and Highlanders.
