“TLC was deeply saddened by the loss of Robert,” read a statement provided by the network to Men’s Health. “We are grateful to his family who were gracious enough to let us continue to share his brave story with our viewers. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.”

While his size posed enough problems for his health, it was also noted that the 41-year-old had an addiction to painkillers. Further complications arose after undergoing surgery to remove a lymphedema mass. Buchel reportedly ripped his stitches out to gain more pain medication.

“It’s like a flip has been switched. He’s been nasty since the surgery because he can’t get the drugs,” Kathryn Lemanski, Buchel’s bride-to-be reportedly said on the show.

After being checked into a rehab facility by doctors, Buchel refused to exercise or even walk. Just weeks later, he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help his family with costs.
