If you’re struggling to find a missus, you might think it’s down to not looking like Chris Hemsworth. New research may suggest otherwise.

According to cosmetic site Flawless.org, 85 per cent of Australian women ranked personality over looks when looking for a romantic partner.

Analysing data from YouGov.co.uk, experts investigated the nation’s top priorities when it comes to finding the one. The research comes from a 2017 survey featuring 483 Australian men and 525 Australian women.

Participants were asked two questions:

1. “Thinking about your personal preferences in a romantic partner, how would you prioritise each of the following characteristics”

2. “Looks Vs Personality, which is more important?”

Interestingly, only 18 per cent of men preferred ‘good looks’ to a personality. Aussies blokes also ranked first for percentage of people who earmarked intelligence as a top priority.

Meanwhile, nearly half of Australian women ranked personality as their number one prerequisite (49 per cent), while 42 per cent of men thought the same. For 23 per cent of men and 24 per cent of women, personality was ranked second when it came to must-haves.

Only 10 per cent of women had appearance as a top priority for a relatio.

Apart from personality and looks, humour also ranked well – 15 per cent of women needed to have a good laugh. Although it’s argued humour might fall under personality.

The least important influence? Money – 59 per cent of women and 70 per cent of men had no interest in how thick your wallet is.

Across the globe, it was Hong Kong who rated appearance the highest – 33 per cent of men and 19 per cent of women, while France came in second.

Interestingly, Denmark considered good looks the lowest priority. But we all know how good looking Scandinavian people are.

So next time you’re out and about, ask questions, be good company and your appearance won’t mean a thing. As Dale Carnegie says: ‘In order to be interesting you have to be interested.’
