People joke that you're more likely to get attacked by a shark. But for Mick Fanning this has become far too real.
At the same beach in South Africa where he was attacked by a shark two years ago, Fanning has had another close encounter with the ocean's big fish.
At 2:30pm local time, a 3m shark was spotted. Within moments, jet skis pulled Fanning and Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina from the water.
Speaking to reporters after the ordeal, Fanning appeared calm.
"I was looking and one of the skiers moved pretty close and i was looking at him going what are you doing?," said Fanning, seen laughing and chatting with others.
"Then i saw him pick up John and I was like all right, we're out of here. I was sort of hoping to catch another wave and just go straight in. I'm glad i didn't do that."
