MH Tech Review: Cygnett FreePlay Bluetooth Earphones

The death of our beloved headphone jack marked a new era for music listeners, from the daily commuter to the audiophile, we were finally forced to cut the cord and unite in a new wave of wireless listening.

While we may not miss the frustrating cord tangles, navigating the wireless world can be a confusing task when it comes to finding the perfect pair.

Amidst this battle of the buds, Cygnett has launched a powerful pair of Bluetooth earphones to maximize your latest Spotify playlist.

Design

Whether you’re smashing out a session in the gym or dabbling in a bit of risky phone banter, the sweat-resistant silicone earpieces have got you covered. They sit comfortably and securely in your ears, no matter the intensity of your exercise, which means you can enjoy up to three hours of non-stop music without interruptions.

While the battery life isn’t great, the sleek case doubles as a charger to power up your buds while you’re on the move, so you can wind down on your evening commute. The compact case is also fitted with magnets, so when you’re done listening simply snap them securely into place, where they are safe from nicks and scratches.

Available in sleek black or solid white to complement your phone, the minimalist design doesn’t skimp on functionality, with each bud featuring a control button to answer calls, power and navigate your music. That said, sensing the disapproving glares of my fellow commuters, as I converse with the back of someone’s head has been enough to put me off the call feature for now. For this reason, I have found my wireless buds are best suited to at-home and office to get the most out of the hands-free features.

Sound

There’s nothing worse than being subjected to the questionable music tastes of others and while the earphones are not entirely noise-cancelling, the secure fit and smooth sound quality reduces background clatter just enough to get your toes tapping. For this reason, they are best suited to quieter environments to optimize the sound quality, as well as offering a safer space to unleash the sweet symphony of your ‘pre-Reputation T-Swift’ playlist.
