Countless sessions in your room throughout your teenage years would probably make you an expert at masturbating, right? Apparently not.

The masturbation coaching industry originally started in 1984 by Dr Joseph Kramer before being recognised by California in 2003.

Speaking to Fatherly, masturbation coach ( yes that’s his actual profession) and former colleague of Kramer, Bruce Grether says you’re probably doing it wrong. According to the owner of Erotic Engineer most blokes masturbate to ejaculate as soon as they can, missing out on self-love.

“Human sexuality becomes most rewarding when it connects directly with self-love. The cliche’ is that women associate emotion with eroticism more than men, but this is something men can lean,” says Grether.

Another of Kramer’s co-workers, Kai Helmich, says bad habits developed during your younger years need to be corrected first.

“The typical pattern we learn as children is that we go to the toilet, and we have two minutes before mum finds out what we’re doing,” says Helmich. “You go as quick as you can. No sound – no nothing. It’s completely unnatural.”

“Most men have no idea how to use their sexual energy as a constructive force. They want to orgasm, and then they want to fall asleep.”

Helmich notes that the porn-related masturbation has created a toxic culture where men think it’s masculine “to go out there and fuck something; if they go out there and dominate through sex. Helmich recommends men treating their penis like a “wand of light, not as a sword.”

The masturbation coach also has some great advice for those who pop the champagne bottle too early.

“Set it to 25 minutes. Really force yourself to feel all those sensations. Try to really get inside of yourself.” After ejaculating, “Lie down and enjoy that beautiful chemical cocktail of endorphins.”
