Kevin Hart’s Trainer Shares The Motivation Advice He Gives His Top Celebrity Clients

“You’re already here in the gym, so you might as well make it good.”

Some people love it, others love to hate it, regardless of where you sit on the spectrum of enjoyment, it’s inevitable that your motivation to workout will wane throughout the year. Summer might inspire us all to hit the gym with consistency as we look to tone the body and develop a six-pack all so we can flaunt our hard-earned physique on the beach, but when the temperature dips and the sky turns grey with cold winds lashing at your face, trading a warm bed for the arctic air-con of the gym in winter can be a challenge. Soon we find ourselves sleeping in later, staying in, and that rest day turns into a rest weekend, only to become a two-month break from all fitness.

It’s long been said that you can’t rely on motivation alone when it comes to working out. Instead, most talk about discipline. For Ron ‘Boss’ Everline, the fitness trainer has made something of an empire out of his work ethic that he passes on to clients that include the likes of Kevin Hart, Ne-Yo, Trey Songs and NFL linebacker Derrick Johnson. After his bid to go pro in the NFL fell short, Everline has created a fitness empire that includes a training facility, nutrition app and network of certified fitness coaches and specialists.

But aside from all that, it’s Everline’s approach to fitness that continues to inspire many. This isn’t a trainer that holds your hand throughout the process, but rather one that reminds you of the power of self-worth and taking responsibility for your actions – including that of your health and wellbeing. Central to his ethos is the mantra ‘Just Train’. As Everline explains, it’s not rocket science when it comes to fitness: simply put in the work, little bit little, with consistency, and you’ll see results.

“This is only 45 minutes to an hour out of your day, and it’s going to make you a better person,” he says. “Give it your all so that you leave nothing on the table.”

In a recent interview with Men’s Health US, Everline explained that understanding the mindset of his clients is imperative to helping them achieve success. He asks questions about what it is they’re trying to accomplish in the gym and in life, striving to bring those worlds together in the process. As he explains, “Sometimes you work with motivated people and sometimes you’re dealing with unmotivated people. I like to understand the individual psychology of whomever it is that I’m training so that I can understand what’s ultimately going to get them to move in a way that’s going to help them get the most out of the session.”

Central to tapping into that inner drive of his clients, Everline says that he tries to get them to acknowledge just how little out of their day exercise takes up. “I’m going to remind you that you’re already here in the gym, so you might as well make it good. You’re already here, so you might as well give it your all so that you leave nothing on the table.”
