Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been married since 1997. That’s 22 years. We’ve had four presidents and three separate Spider-Man franchises since then. How is a couple supposed to keep things fresh after all that time? Jada, who recently opened up about her marriage to Will in an interview with The Sun, credits a healthy sex life with the longevity of their relationship—and advocates bringing sex toys into the bedroom.

“People are shocked about my love for using sex toys,” she said, adding: “I know damn well I’m not the only one who uses them… Nobody has to feel any shame about it but I’m still surprised how people relate to sex, specifically female sexuality – it’s still such a taboo.”

Taboos extend beyond just sex, to relationships in general: Jada has spoken with great candor about her marriage before, as she wants to break down the stigmas surrounding relationships which prevent people communicating honestly.

“Will and I really wanted to dissolve the myths that surround partnerships that are in the public eye, as if they’re easy,” she said. “Those partnerships are going through the exact kind of difficulties everyone else is going through. We got a lot of positive responses from people in our industry… I think it gave people the opportunity to sit down with their partner.”

Jada isn’t the only celebrity getting really honest about the value of sex toys in a healthy sex life. Earlier this year, pop singer Lily Allen announced that she would be launching her own line of sex toys, saying: “Orgasms are important, ladies, and I feel like the celeb sex toy market hasn’t been capitalised upon.”

While sex toys have predominantly been seen as products which are made for and marketed towards women, use of toys among men is on the rise: research conducted in 2018 by Lovehoney revealed that as many as 64 per cent of men own a dildo.
