No wait, we’re still missing something…

A few days ago Joe Biden put his left hand on the bible to take the oath of office and become the President of the United States, and if you look closely enough, he did it while wearing a brand new Rolex.

For his inauguration, the newly minted 46th President of the United States didn’t wear just any Rolex, he wore a Rolex Datejust, in steel, with a blue dial, on a jubilee bracelet.

The relevance you may ask? Well, Biden is joining a tradition of presidents wearing Rolex’s in the Oval Office. Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, and Ronald Reagan all had one. Barack Obama wore a Rolex Cellini in his official presidential portrait and has been wearing it since leaving office. And, of course, there’s JFK’s notorious Day-Date.

For Eisenhower, Rolex reached out in 1952 (when he was still just a five-star general and not yet the President of the United States) with an offer – they wanted to outfit him with a gold Datejust engraved with his initials. The watch went on to accompany him into the White House in 1953 and it sort-of kicked off this long-held tradition.

It would have been extreme luck that Biden just picked the watch out of a lineup – our guess is that the new POTUS considered all of this while choosing his DateJust.

Stepping away from his larger sized steel sports watches, his DateJust looks to be the current generation model, featuring a smooth bezel, applied markers, and Arabic numerals around the dial. It can go with a suit, and it can go with casual wear. But Biden knows that, of course.

How can we assume that, you ask? Because alongside his new Rolex, Biden has been spotted in an Omega Seamaster Professional 300m, a Seiko 7T32-6M90 Chronograph on the campaign trail (and for his victory speech), and a 42mm Omega Speedmaster Professional “Moonwatch.”

Biden, fellow readers, is a watch collector. A watch collector who has just moved into the Oval Office.
