Is Your Mattress Affecting Your Sex Life?

Are you and your partner struggling with the mattress dance? Just not in the mood to get intimate? Too many distractions or worse, back pain killing the bedroom vibe?

According to research, a healthy sex life is good for your heart, lowers your blood pressure, decreases symptoms of anxiety and depression, is a great form of pain relief, and leads to a better night’s sleep. And let’s face it, it feels great.

But if things are failing in the bedroom, it might not be you (or your partner) to blame. The culprit could be your bed! That’s right, the wrong mattress can lead to a hot night – sleep wise that is. Sleep deprivation takes the sizzle out of sex. The wrong mattress can turn a hot night of loving into a hot sleep. So, if you think your bed could be the cause of all your bedroom dramas, here are some of the signs to watch for.

Hard or Soft? It Matters with your Mattress

Your mattress needs to provide the right support when you’re inert or active. If it’s too soft, you’re not going to get the traction you need and if your mattress is too hard, it could be too jarring on the joints with more frenzied movements. The comfort feel of a mattress is subjective but it is important to assess this during sleep and sex to ensure it is perfect for you.

Squeaky Sounds are NOT Sexy

Mattress moans definitely dampen the mood. A noisy mattress lets the whole household know what you are up to, it also distracts and can take you away from the moment. A good mattress should not compete with the sounds you make in the bedroom.

The Sex should be Hot, not your Mattress

If you’re uncomfortable before you even take your clothes off, you’re going to get a whole lot worse in the throes of passion. Some mattress types can get too hot, which kills the intimacy. It could be that the mattress is too old, and as such air has trapped under the mattress, it could be the type of material – memory foam mattresses tend to retain the most heat or it could be that the base under the mattress doesn’t offer any circulation (such as plywood). To keep the heat on top of and not within the bed, a latex mattress is the best choice given its open cell structure that allows for good airflow.

Your Bed should Appeal to All Senses

An old mattress is a smelly mattress. If you’ve had your mattress for a few years, try to imagine how much sweat, dead skin cells, and other bodily fluids, have made their way onto your mattress… pretty gross, right? If your mattress stinks and no amount of airing helps, it’s time to replace it. It’s not just old mattresses that can impact you either. Some types of mattresses have been made with chemicals and end up with what’s called off-gassing. This is common in synthetic mattresses that contain petroleum-based chemicals and fire-retarding agents. Off-gassing can lead to eye, nose and throat irritation – sniffles and sneezes never worked as foreplay!

So, what can you do?

It’s simple. If things aren’t doing it for you or your partner in the bedroom – it’s time for an upgrade! Of your mattress that is. If you’re not sure what to choose given the myriad of options, you can’t go wrong with latex.

Latex has always played an important role in the bedroom, but it’s not just about protection. It’s also about comfort, durability and longevity. Enter the latex mattress.

Can a latex mattress be the fix you need for the best nights whether you are asleep or active? Absolutely! A Peacelily latex mattress for example has two firmness levels to choose from, one on either side. It is soft enough for comfortable sleep but also resilient to take any vigorous activities. There are no noisy springs to contend with either. Latex is non-toxic and 100% natural and free from chemicals that could get you all choked up. Best of all, latex is durable and designed to last a long time.

Investing in a latex mattress has the major benefit of improving your sleep. Better nights in bed mean a healthier life overall.
