Craft Beer Has Been Found To Be Healthier Than Red Wine

News stories profiling people reaching the 100 year-old milestone always seems to attribute their longevity to “a daily glass of red wine”. It’s been well documented that red wine is packed with antioxidants, can improve cholesterol, manages diabetes, and maintains healthy brain functioning. However new research suggests there could be a new King of the alcohol: craft beer.

“We all know that a glass of red wine is good for you, but it turns outs a pint of craft beer is better, it has got more good things in it,” said Professor Mike McCullough of California’s Polytechnic State University.

When asked exactly why craft beer is healthier than wine, McCullough explained that the inclusion of the B3 vitamin from the brewers yeast improves it’s ability to lower cardiovascular disease risk, lowers cholesterol, and reduces atherosclerosis (artery hardening).

“Your instances of heart disease and your instances of type 2 diabetes decreases on an amount that’s comparable, if not a little bit more, than if you are drinking red wine.”

These health benefits are lost in the pasteurisation process of mass produced beers, which have a bad reputation when it comes to health. “You associate a beer drinker’s diet with nachos and unhealthy eating habits but the trend with more differentiated beer and higher-end beer is that you are eating it with meals,” Prof McCullough said.

Not that you really needed an excuse for another beer, but now you have it. Grab an icy cold glass of Modus Operandi’s new majestic leopard beer and lets cheers to that!
