According to The Daily Telegraph,  Australia’s first UFC champion, Robert Whitaker, will compete at the Commonwealth Games

The middleweight fighter, who was dominant in the qualifiers and came out on top back in November, has finally received confirmation that he will be competing in Gold Coast come April 4th.

While there was no question over the 85kg monster’s ability, due to a series of appeals from other contestants, Whittaker only found out his fate today. UFC president Dana White has also been notified of the news.

His coaches are adamant that the tournament won’t affect his preparation in the lead up to his title defence with Cuban Yoel Romero later in the year.

Whittaker will represent Aus in the 91kg division.
