3 Places Where You Need To Take Your Hydration Seriously

Have you noticed it’s getting busier out on your morning run or at the gym lately? That’s usually one of the first signs the winter hibernation is coming to an end. We know YOU haven’t let your workout slip during the cooler months (riiight?), but now the weather’s warming up, everyone needs to smarten up their summer workout game.

There are two essentials for warm weather workouts: a towel and a water bottle. No towel is poor gym etiquette, because nobody wants to lie on a bench in a pool of some other guy’s sweat. But no water bottle is worse, because whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pro, if you’re risking dehydration, you’re putting your health at risk. So, if you’re going to be in any of these three places you need to take your H20 seriously.

Endurance events

If you’re a marathon runner, cyclist or other distance athlete, listen up. A US study into prolonged endurance performance found athletes rarely replace their fluids fully after sweat loss. The same study found proper hydration during training or competition enhanced athletes’ performance by slowing fatigue and avoiding overheating. Post-event, it helped prevent injuries associated with dehydration and sweat loss.

So don’t hold off on the water just because you don’t want to carry a water bottle. It could be slowing you down. Take a look at the Thermos® Brand 1.5L Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Sports Bottle. It comes with its own pouch with a clip strap you can attach to your gear, so you can grab it on the move. It has ThermosTM vacuum insulation technology for maximum temperature retention to keep your water or hydration drink cool for up to 24 hours, an easy push button drinking lid that locks and a durable interior and exterior that will go the distance.

Work

However you make a crust, you need to be on your game, and hydration plays a big part in keeping you there. Experts recommend 16 cups of water a day for men to maintain proper hydration. If that sounds like a lot, consider the functions your body needs water for: digestion, elimination, saliva, lubricating your eyes, maintaining your blood and plasma stores, and optimal cell function. Not to mention your brain, which can become sluggish and show impaired cognitive function if you’re dehydrated.

It’s just common sense that if you work outdoors and you’re exposed to the elements, or you’re physically active at work, you will need to drink more water than a guy in a suit and tie. And no, a can of  soft drink doesn’t count. Do yourself a favour and invest in a proper water bottle that takes a good volume so you can take it on-site and not have to refill it every five minutes. The Thermos® Brand 2.0L Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Hydration Bottle has the size and sturdiness you need, as well as insulation technology that will keep your water cool for up to 24 hours. It’s a favourite of tradies, and it’s easy to see why.

Gym

While gym workouts don’t usually run as long as an endurance event, you can work up a pretty big sweat when you’re smashing it out. If you’re sweating heavily, you should be topping up to help regulate your body temperature and keep your muscles and joints lubricated.
